Strava and 4000Watt
How the connection works – and how data stays under control.
What the connection does
Once a Strava account is connected to 4000Watt, two things happen. First, 4000Watt imports the Strava activities from the last 30 days as well as all future activities and shows them in the training log – so the entire training feeds into load management. Second, completed 4000Watt workouts are automatically uploaded to Strava, including power data.
Both directions can be switched on and off individually at any time in the app under Profile → Strava.
The data
What we read
The Strava activities – name, sport, date, duration, distance, heart rate, and power. No GPS tracks, no segments, no data from other athletes.
How
Data is retrieved through the official Strava API, only after 4000Watt has been explicitly authorized on Strava.
Use
Strava data is used solely to display the account owner’s own training history. It is visible only to that account and is never shared with third parties.
Revoking access
Disconnecting is possible at any time – in the app under Profile → Strava, or directly on strava.com under Settings → My Apps.
Deletion
On disconnect, all imported Strava data is deleted from 4000Watt immediately and permanently. A confirmation follows once the deletion is complete.
Frequently asked questions
How is a Strava account connected?
In the app: Profile → Strava → "Connect with Strava". An overview of what happens with the data appears first; the connection is then confirmed directly on Strava in the browser.
How is the connection removed?
In the app: Profile → Strava → "Disconnect". Alternatively, 4000Watt’s access can be revoked on strava.com under Settings → My Apps – both have the same effect.
What happens to the data on disconnect?
Import and export stop immediately. All imported Strava data is deleted from 4000Watt immediately and permanently, followed by a confirmation. Workouts completed in 4000Watt remain untouched. Workouts already exported to Strava remain on Strava and can be deleted there.
Why is an activity missing in 4000Watt?
Two common reasons: activities with the Strava visibility "Only you" are not imported – 4000Watt deliberately requests only the minimum permissions necessary. New activities usually appear within a few minutes; an additional sync runs every time the app starts.
An activity was deleted on Strava – what happens in 4000Watt?
It is automatically removed from 4000Watt within 48 hours.
How do 4000Watt workouts appear on Strava?
As a virtual ride with the workout name and the suffix "– 4000Watt", including the full power and heart rate curve. The automatic upload can be switched off in the app at any time.
Why is heart rate missing from imported activities?
Strava treats heart rate as health data and only shares it with connected apps after explicit permission has been given. This can be enabled on strava.com under Settings → My Account → Data Permissions. Activities recorded before permission is granted remain without heart rate data.
